Augusta Iron & Steel Works is seeking an individual to be part of our Quality team!  

Responsibilities   

  • Coordinates efforts and communications between management and the production teams to resolve issues without compromising quality.

  • Develop and implement the project-specific Quality Control Plans (QCP).

  • Assist in the development and improvement of welding procedures and welder qualifications.

  • Responsible for measuring equipment calibration management.

  • Oversee QC team’s daily inspections and tests to ensure compliance with design drawings, technical specifications, and applicable construction codes.

  • Supervise and coordinate QC inspectors, technicians, and third-party testing agencies.

  • Gains understanding of the clients’ needs and requirements.

  • Monitor the quality of incoming materials. Ensure subcontractors and suppliers adhere to quality standards.

  • Maintain professional relationships and communications with various state DOT representatives, third-party inspectors, and inspection agencies.

  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards related to QC activities.

  • Recommend adjustments and support process improvements to the assembly or production process.  

  • Inspect, test, or measure materials. Conduct product tests and assessments to improve product quality and reduce risks.

  • Inspect output, comparing it to the requirements, and approving or rejecting the product prior to final DOT inspection.

  • Serve as lead auditor for internal audits and point of contact for external quality audits.

  • Reviewing and improving new specifications and procedures and training staff to use them.

  • Attention to detail during audits to catch small defects or deviations that could impact structural integrity.

  • Diagnoses root causes of quality issues and implement or oversee corrective and preventive measures.

  • Uses a methodical approach to identify and correct deficiencies in materials, methods, or workmanship.

  • Ensure all documentation, reports, and corrective actions are tracked and accessible.

  • Acts as a subject-matter expert in quality standards.

  • Provides training and mentoring to junior QC staff and field teams on best practices.

  • Other duties as assigned to facilitate daily workflow.

Full-time position.  Hours of operation:                Monday – Friday 6:00am – 4:30pm. Variable

The rate of pay is based on experience and skill level. Salary Range: 50K - 95K.

Requirements

  • Able to read and write English.

  • MUST have current valid CWI.

  • Bachelor’s/associate degree in a related field, such as engineering, manufacturing or quality is preferred. At least five years of experience in quality control in a structural manufacturing facility.

  • Familiarity with DOT specifications and construction standards for bridges is preferred.

  • Must have valid, current American Welding Society’s CWI Certificate.

  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards such as AWS, OSHA, AISC, ASNT, SPCC.

  • Must have thorough knowledge of nondestructive testing, and preferably a UT Level II certification and MT Level II certification.

  • AMPP, BCI Level I or II certification or a NACE Level II coating inspection certification is preferred but will be required within the first year of employment.

  • Able to read shop drawings. Strong knowledge of mathematics, data analysis, and statistical methods.  

  • Proficiency in conducting various training concerning production processes, quality, and safety.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong knowledge of construction materials, methods, and best practices.

Working Conditions:

  • Exposure to loud noise, heavy machinery, and changing weather conditions.

  • Able to lift 50+ lbs.

  • Able to sit/stand/bend/climb stairs for variable period of time.
