Openings: Paint Associate

Augusta Iron & Steel Works is seeking a Paint Associate!  

Responsibilities   

  • Prepare surfaces for painting by cleaning, sanding, blasting, and removing rust, debris, dirt etc.

  • Mix and apply primers, paints, and coatings according to specifications on shop drawings.

  • Use tools such as sprayers, brushes, and rollers to apply paint.

  • Mask and protect parts that should not be painted.

  • Ensure paint application meets safety and quality standards.

  • Maintain painting equipment and keep work areas clean and organized.

  • Follow all company safety protocols, especially when working in confined spaces or at heights.

  • Read and interpret shop drawings.

  • Maintain accurate records of materials used and completed work.

  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and other team members.

  • Layout and application of shear connectors.

  • Operate forklift, grinding equipment, overhead cranes.

  • Layout and attach shear connectors. Operate and maintain the blast machine.

  • Other duties as assigned to facilitate daily workflow of production.

Full-time position.  Hours of operation:  Monday – Friday 6:00am – 4:30pm.

The rate of pay is based on experience and skill level.

Requirements

 

  • Understands math and measuring. Ability to use and read tape measure to a 1/32 “ scope (standard).

  • Proficient in reading, writing, and understanding English for workplace communication with team members, safety protocols, and documentation.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, shop drawings, or schematics.

  • Good manual dexterity and attention to detail.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills.

  • Proven experience as an industrial painter or in a similar role.  

  • Comfortable working on elevated surfaces and in confined spaces when required.

  • Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity.

  • Certification in industrial painting or surface preparation (e.g., SSPC, NACE) is a plus.

  • Steady hand-eye coordination for precise paint application.

  • Ability to wear a respirator or other protective gear for extended periods.

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry heavy materials (up to 50 lbs) regularly.

  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel and walk up/down stairs regularly and for extended periods.

  • Comfortable working in varying environmental conditions, including heat, cold, and noise typical of a steel fabrication facility.

  • Exposure to chemical components.

  • Proficiency in using hand tools and machinery that require manual dexterity and precision.

  • Stamina to manage physically demanding tasks and maintain focus during processes.

  • Wearing required PPE

  • Participation in training, inspections and incident reporting.

  • Adherence to OSHA, company safety policies, and procedures.

Openings: Rigger

Augusta Iron & Steel Works is seeking an individual to be part of our Rigging team!  

Responsibilities   

  • Inspect rigging equipment, such as slings, cables, pans, chains, and hooks, to ensure they are in proper working condition.

  • Plan and organize lifting operations, determining the best rigging methods and equipment to use for each job.

  • Attach loads to lifting devices like cranes, hoists, or other mechanical devices.

  • Monitor lifting activities, ensuring adherence to safety standards and protocols.

  • Coordinate with crane operators and other workers to ensure smooth and efficient execution of lifting tasks.

  • Follow all safety guidelines, regulations, and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.

  • Maintain and store rigging equipment according to safety protocols and company standards.

  • Troubleshoot any issues with rigging equipment and suggest or implement solutions as needed.

  • Perform routine maintenance on rigging gear and equipment.

Receiving Inbound Products:

  • Unload and inspect incoming shipments to ensure that the correct products have been delivered and are in good condition. Mark product against the BOL for each piece.

  • Document and report any discrepancies, damages, or missing items in received goods.

  • Properly store and organize incoming products according to inventory and safety protocols.

  • Assist in unloading steel plates from delivery trucks or rail cars using rigging and material handling equipment

Shipping and Loading Trucks:

  • Prepare girders and steel material products for shipment, ensuring items are securely rigged and protected during transport.

  • Load products and materials onto trucks or other vehicles, ensuring proper weight distribution and load security.

  • Document and verify outbound shipments, including quantities, weights, and destination/job details.

  • Strong knowledge of rigging techniques, equipment, and safety standards.

  • Ability to read and interpret shop drawings and technical drawings.

  • Physical strength and stamina to handle heavy lifting and prolonged work in demanding environments.

  • Ability to work at heights or in confined spaces, when necessary.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining safety standards.

  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

  • Ability to use and read tape measure to a 1/32 “ scope (standard).

  • Able to read and write English.

  • Able to operate forklift.
