

Openings: Leaderman - Paint Department
Augusta Iron & Steel Works is seeking an experienced Leader in our Paint Department.
Responsibilities
-
Direct daily workflow and assign resources across operations including blaster, shear-connector bay, paint bay.

Monitor and report daily employee and temporary team member time sheets.

Maintain accountability for equipment, materials, inventory, and tools, paint, mixing elements, etc. within the department.

Coordinate with Maintenance to ensure equipment, machines and tools receive timely preventative maintenance and repairs.

Conduct layout reviews of project dimensions prior to assembly when required.

Ensure all components are cleaned, prepped, and coated according to job specifications (primer, finish coat, mileage, etc. )

Maintain accurate records on traveler records, paint usage, and inventory.

Oversee maintenance and cleanliness of ventilation systems, spray equipment and overall department.

Perform final preparation of work for QC inspections and ensure nonconformances are promptly addressed.

Coordinate and prioritize work to meet production deadlines and quality standards.

Apply lean manufacturing practices to minimize waste, improve processes, and increase productivity.

Enforce and model compliance with all OSHA and company safety regulations.
-
Promote continuous improvement and encourage team involvement in problem-solving initiatives.
-
Provide guidance, feedback, and coaching to team members to support skill development and accountability.

Perform other duties as assigned to support efficient plant operations.

Full-time position. Hours of operation: Monday – Friday 6:00am – 4:30pm.
The rate of pay is based on experience and skill level.

Requirements
-
Minimum of 3 years of industrial painting, coating or finishing preferably within the steel fabrication or bridge industry.

Knowledge of surface preparation standards, blast cleaning and paint curing processes.

Ensure all work is performed in compliance with OSHA, EPA and company safety and environmental policies.

Ability to read and interpret shop drawings, weld symbols, and technical specifications.
-
Strong math skills and ability to accurately measure to 1/32”.

Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate a team effectively.

Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles preferred.
-
Strong commitment to workplace safety and product quality.

Physical Requirement
-
Ability to lift and carry heavy materials (up to 50 lbs) regularly.
-
Ability to stand, bend, kneel and walk up/down stairs regularly.
-
Comfortable working in varying environmental conditions, including heat, cold, and noise typical of a steel fabrication facility.
-
Proficiency in using hand tools and machinery that require manual dexterity and precision.
-
Stamina to manage physically demanding tasks and maintain focus during processes.
